Mykonos Part 2 – Kastro’s Restaurant, Mykonos Town

Picture yourself eating freshly caught fish from the Aegean Sea, whilst sat watching a beautiful Mykonos sunset turn from amber to fuchsia down one of the many white-washed back streets of the town.

This is exactly what you get at Kastro’s Restaurant and Bar, and it definitely does not disappoint.

Kastro’s has been proudly taking centre stage in Mykonos Town since 1976, originally serving cocktails they’ve since started serving a delicious array of freshly caught fish and seafood from the very sea you sit beside as you dine.

The restaurant is situated alongside Little Venice and has fantastic views of the Mykonos Windmills that stand tall against the bright skyline.

You can choose to sit inside the restaurant or, as we did, be charmed by the small row of rustic wooden tables and patterned cushions set up down the side.

The end of the cobbled passage opens out on to the sea and as you’re dining you can hear the waves softly lapping against it.

Not only was the setting perfect, so was the food.

We started with a variety of Greek appetisers including; a delicious taramasalata dip, fresh and tangy tzatziki, and a tomato and aubergine salsa served with warm pita breads.

We also ordered the grilled calamari in a lemon and thyme sauce with fresh chilli, absolutely delicious!

The starters were followed by a beautifully delicate grilled fresh sea bream fillet in a fragrant orange and thyme sauce with seasonal vegetables.

And lastly, a vibrant and rich seafood risotto crammed full of clams, mussels and shell-on, buttery prawns all wrapped in a warming saffron broth.

We paired this with a glass of crisp white, for her, and full-body red, for him.

During the course of the meal you see the passageway turn a rainbow of colours as the white walls echo the changing tones of the evening sky.

And once the sun has set you can enjoy the views by candlelight.

He got a little too excited watching the sun set!

For the rest of the evening we sat, chatting about the delicious meal, our beautiful surroundings and how lucky we felt to be enjoying this moment together in Mykonos.

Slowly watching the sun (and our wines) disappear.

If you are ever in Mykonos Town and looking for a meal with a mesmerizing view of the sun setting, promise us you will head to Kastro’s.
