Our Thai Honeymoon: Part 1 (The Shore, Katathani, Phuket)

So it’s been a while and A LOT has happened!

Since you last heard from us we have planned a wedding, got married and been on our honeymoon to Thailand… and we have thousands of photographs to prove it!

Over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing more about our wedding and all the finer details and planning that went into making our day so special. But for now, we have a series of posts dedicated to our honeymoon.

This one is all about the first leg of our trip… The Shore at Katathani, Phuket.

Set beside Kata Noi Beach and nestled into the hill is this utterly beautiful resort.

We stayed in a sea view room, the only one to opt for if you are staying at this resort. The rooms are beautifully spacious and elegantly decorated. Each comes with its own private infinity pool overlooking the beach… perfect for honeymooners like us!

You literally do not need to move a finger whilst at this resort.

The staff will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner in your rooms if you request it and you call a buggy which drives you down the steep hill to the beach whenever you fancy (and back up too, which is needed after a cocktail or two!).

On a few occasions we had breakfast served to our room so we could eat bacon whilst watching the sun rise across the ocean… absolutely bliss!

One evening we also decided to have a tapas banquet served on our outside terrace.

After which we slurped on champagne and toasted to our marriage.

There is also lots to see and do in Phuket. So we made sure to peel ourselves off the beach now and then and grab a Tuk Tuk to go exploring.

Our first stop was to see the Big Buddha situated on the peak of mount Nagakerd in Karon. The statue is 45 meters tall and adorned with beautiful white Burmese jade marble.

There is something so holy about standing small beneath this sacred monument. It really is breathtaking and the views from the top are stunning.

Tourists are welcome to write prayers on small, gold, heart-shaped tiles and hang them around the Buddha, these glistened in the sun and swung excitably in the warm breeze.

We sat for a while and watched the monks inside the temple, all of them were praying in sync and together they sounded like a beautiful choir.

Upon leaving we lit an incense stick and thought about how grateful we were for all the amazing things that have happened to us over the last whirlwind year.

Next stop was the Wat Chalong temple, a charming red and gold temple with the most intricate carving and painting we have ever seen.

After walking around the temple buildings, listening to the sound of fire crackers going off and watching locals leave their offerings in return for good fortune we headed to Naka Market, the Phuket night market.

You name it… the market has it. Delicious fresh food, local delicacies, and even puppies!

Whilst staying at The Shore we also recommend a spot of scuba diving and visits to Phuket old town and Patong, both very different but must-sees for Thailand. We did both of these on separate days and made multiple sight-seeing stop offs on the way.

Although our favourite thing to do whilst we were staying here was to spend the day down by the beach right up until the sun was setting and then grab a buggy back up to our room where we’d slip into our private pool and take in the last of the day with a glass of fizz.

We ate at so many lovely restaurants whilst staying in Katathani, however, our favourite meal was at Mom Tri’s Kitchen at Villa Royale.

Set up on the hill above Kata Beach it has the most amazing views, romantic ambiance and delicious local food.
